Q: What inspired you to pursue the path of massage therapy? / What drew you to the study of manual therapy and massage therapy?

A: Over the course of my early adulthood and transition, massage helped me access and live in parts of my body that I had spent years ignoring. My life was meaningfully improved by experiencing therapeutic touch. I left my office job having spent too many of my vital years working only to the benefit of shareholders and started life as a massage therapist to help others experience the power of embodiment.

Q: What can a new patient expect in their first massage with you? / How would you explain your style of massage and bodywork to a new patient?

During our intake, I will listen to your story, ask any questions I believe might be relevant, and describe the treatment plan I believe will be most effective for you. At any point during our conversation or the treatment, I invite your feedback regarding comfort, technique, areas of focus, and of course pressure and will do my best to respond and accommodate your needs.

My bodywork is a mixture of Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, Tui Na (traditional Chinese massage), muscle energy techniques (METs), and Craniosacral Therapy. Typically, unless there is a request for a Craniosacral Therapy treatment, my work combines these modalities as appropriate to meet your needs. I love engaging my clients and encouraging them to drive their massage through physical and verbal participation. Few aspects of massage are more satisfying to me than my clients demonstrating an active interest in their own bodies.

Q: Is there anything you'd like clients to know about you before booking?

Don’t be shy about asking any questions that might occur to you before or during the treatment! I want to equip each client with confidence and comfort when going into their session with me. The more detail in our conversation, the better prepared I’ll be to meet your needs.

Q: What is something you've learned over your years of practicing massage therapy that has surprised you?

During my time in school, I thought I would gravitate toward relaxation-focused treatments and resisted more clinical, focused work. After working with many queer, disabled, and mature clients, I’ve found that medical massage is highly rewarding, both in terms of my personal growth and the wonderful client relationships that form over a series of goal-oriented treatments. After coming to this understanding, I’m always looking for ways to step outside my comfort zone in my practice.

Q: How do you approach complex cases with issues like chronic pain or multifaceted injury?

For complex treatments, I ensure that our intake conversation is thorough. I must have a firm grasp on how the condition has appeared and continues to manifest in your life; I must understand how the condition affects your mobility whether at home, at work, or at play; I must learn what has and has not worked for you in the past in terms of both self-care and professional attention. I work with care and will continue to check in with you over the course of your treatment, adapting my method to your needs. There is no aspect of my bodywork set in stone; our time together is a collaboration and your voice is vital.

Q: How do you most enjoy spending your time outside of the clinic?

In my free time, I enjoy taking long walks around town, hiking in nature, bonding with my cat, spending time with friends, reading literary fiction as well as comics, journaling, writing personal essays and poetry, waiting for the adductor machine at the gym, melting in saunas, spending too much money on coffee I can make at home, and being eternally locked in combat in my lifelong struggle to learn guitar.
